                                                                                    Informazioni storiche
Varata il 08.09.1938, e fu completata il 15.07.1939. Denominata ORANJE fu consegnata alla Compagnia di Navigazione NV Paesi Bassi Steamship Company -Amsterdam il 16.12.1939. Subito dopo la consegna all'arrivo della nave a Surabaya (Java), a causa della guerra che si stava scatenando in Europa, la nave fu posta in disarmo. Nel febbraio del 1941 passò sotto il controllo dell'Austarlia e fu trasformata in nave ospedale battente bandiera olandese.
Il 19.07.1946 ritornò in servizio civile e fu immessa sulla linea febbraio, Amsterdam – Panama – Auckland – Sydney – Singapore – Suez - Amsterdam. Il 06 gennaio 1953 durante una crociera nel Mar Rosso, entrò in collisione con la sua gemella WILLEM RUYS, le due navi rimasero gravemente danneggiate ma non affondarono e non vi furono vittime.
Dal 13.01.1959 al 14.02.1959 fu ristrutturata completamente nei cantieri Drydock di Amsterdam.
Il 09.04.1964 fu acquistata dall'armatore Achille Lauro e rinominata ANGELINA LAURO. Fu completamente ricostruita a Genova per trasformarla in nave da crociera.
Durante i lavori di ricostruzione scoppio un incendio e vi furono 6 vittime.
Durante i lavori fu allungato il ponte passeggiata di 5 metri e la capienza dei passeggeri fu portata a 1.230.
Nel 1972 fu nuovamente sottoposta a lavori di ristrutturazione e la capacità di trasporto dei passeggeri fu nuovamente ridotta a 800.

Il 31.03. 1979 durante una crociera alle isole Vergini americane per conto della Costra Crociere, mentre si trovava in porto a St. Thomas scoppio un grave incendio a bordo che si sviluppoò velocemente, nonostante il rapido intervento dei mezzi antincendi la nave divenne ingovernabile e si adagiò sul fondo a causa dell'enorme peso dell'acqua pompata a bordo per spegnere l'incendio che fu domato solo il 03.03.1979
nel luglio dello stesso anno fu rimessa a galla da SMIT Salvage, ma fu dichiarata la perdita totale e 'venduta ad un cantiere di demolizione a Kaohsiung (Taiwan).
Il 30.07.1979 la nave fu presa a rimorchio dal rimorchiatore NIPPON MARU ed il 16.08.1979 attraversò il canale di Panama .
Durante la navigazione inizio a sbandare su un lato e il 24.09.1979 affondò in posizione 11°43' Nord e 121°43' West.

Launched on 09.08.1938 was completed on 15.07.1939 ,named ORANJE and handed over to the shipping company NV Netherlands Steamship Company-Amsterdam on 16/12/1939. Immediately after the delivery of the ship in Surabaya (Java), because of the war that was wreaking in Europe, the ship was laid up. In February 1941 it came under the control dell'Austarlia and was turned into a hospital ship flying the Dutch flag.
On 07/19/1946 he returned to civilian service and was placed on line in February, Amsterdam - Panama - Auckland - Sydney - Singapore - Suez - Amsterdam.
