INFORMAZIONI STORICHE
Nell'ottobre del 1940 l'Empire Brigade, al comando di Sydney Parks , imbarcava un carico di 750 tonnellate di rame, 129 tonnellate di leghe di ferro e 980 tonnellate di acciaio a Montreal in Canada e diresse a Sydney, in Nuova Scozia, dove si unì a Convoy SC- 7 . Il carico della nave era destinato a Leith via Tyne.
Il convoglio lasciò Sydney il 5 ottobre 1940, inizialmente con una sola nave di scorta , l'HMS HASTINGS , classe Scarborough. 1l 16 ottobre , un gruppo di u-boats scoprì il ' il convoglio e lo attaccò affondando molte. L'EMPIRE BRIGADE riusci a salvarsi fino alle 01.38 del 19 ottobre, quando l'U-99 OTTO KRETSCHMER si torpedò e la affondò. a circa 100 miglia nautiche a est-sud-est di Rockall (57° 12'N, 10° 43'W ). Su un totale di 41, cinque membri dell'equipaggio e un artigliere DEMS morirono nel naufragio.
La nave HMS FOWEY salvò i restanti membri dell'equipaggio ed il suo comandante sbarcandoli poi a Greenock. Quelli uccisi in Brigata Empire sono commemorati al Tower Hill Memorial di Londra

In October 1940 EMPIRE BRIGADE , with Sydney Parks as her Master, loaded a cargo of 750 tons of copper, 129 tons of ferrous alloys and 980 tons of steel at Montreal in Canada and then sailed to Sydney, Nova Scotia where she joined Convoy SC-7 which was bound for Liverpool. Empire Brigade's cargo was bound for Leith via the Tyne.The convoy left Sydney on 5 October 1940, initially with only one escort ship, the HASTINGS-class sloop HMS Scarborough. A wolf pack of U-boats found the convoy on 16 October and quickly overwhelmed it, sinking many ships over the next few days. EMPIRE BRIGADE survived until 0138 hrs on 19 October, when U-99 OTTO KRETSCHMER torpedoed and sank her in the Western Approaches about 100 nautical miles east-southeast of Rockall (57° 12'N, 10° 43'W ) . Out of a complement of 41, five crew members and one DEMS gunner were killed.
The Shoreham-class sloop HMS FOWEY rescued her Master and 34 crew members and landed them at Greenock.
Those killed on Empire Brigade are commemorated at the Tower Hill Memorial in London
