2002 mentre il varo tecnico, primo al mondo effettuato su carrelli
per una Nave di queste dimensioni, è avvenuto il 14 ottobre

Destroyer DDG ANDREA DORIA (D553) belongs to the class of Naval
Units called Horizon, which includes the twin unit, the Destroyer
DDG CAIO DUILIO (D
554), and two Units of the French Navy (FORBIN
and CHEVALIER PAUL). The first sheet metal cutting ceremony
took place at the Riva Trigoso (GE) shipyards on 19 July 2002, while
the technical launch, the first in the world on trolleys for a ship
of this size, took place on 14 October 2005.
