Questo transatlantico fu costruito nei C.R.A. nel 1932, la madrina del varo fu la Principessa di Piemonte, Maria Josè di Savoia. Durante il viaggio inaugurale da Genova a New York l'esplosione di una valvola in sala macchine squarciò lo scafo nella carena, grazie alla capacità del personale di bordo la falla fu tamponata e potè proseguire il viaggio fino a New York.
Nel 1940 fu trasformato in trasporto truppe e l'11.09.1943 fu affondato dalla RAF nella laguna di Venezia .Dopo il recupero avvenuto il 16.10.1945 da parte dalla società proprietaria che intendeva riutilizzarlo per i viaggi in sud america ci si rese conto che i danni e lo stato della nave non consentivano una riparazione vantaggiosa e nel maggio 1950 fu demolita a Monfalcone.

This liner was built in C.R.A. in 1932, the godmother of the launch was the Princess of Piedmont, Maria José of Savoy. During her maiden voyage from Genoa to New York the explosion of a valve in the engine room burst open the hull in the hull, thanks to the ability of the crew the leak was buffered and could continue the trip to New York.
In 1940 it was turned into troop transport and 11.09..1943 was sunk by the RAF in the lagoon of Venice.
