Il transatlantico AUGUSTUS , fu varato a Trieste il 19.11.1950. il 4.3.1952 effettuò il viaggio inaugurale Genova-Buenos Aires. Dal 19.1.1957 fu trasferita sulla rotta Genova-New York per coprire il vuoto lasciato dall' affondamento dell’Andrea Doria.
nel 1966 subì lavori di ammodernamento che hanno comportato la realizzazione di un cinema da 200 posti e la riduzione delle classi a due soltanto. Passeggeri: 215 prima classe; 858 classe turistica.
L'8.12.1975 effettuò ultimo viaggio Napoli-Buenos Aires, al suo ritorno in Italia venne posta in disarmo. 01.09.1976 fu venduta alla Great Shipping Investments Ltd. Hong kong, che la ribattezzò GREAT SEA .Fu registrata a Port Victoria (Seychelles) e poi acquisì la bandiera panamense. Ad eccezione di sporadici viaggio verso Kaohsiung e Keelung, rimase lungamente disarmata ad Hong Kong.
Nel 1980 fu ceduta alla Ocean king Navigation Corp. di Manila, e combiò nome in OCEAN KING ed anche bandiera, prima liberiana e poi filippina, nel 1983 fu ribattezzata PHILIPPINES.
Nel 1985 fu venduta alla Philippine President Lines Inc., e ribattezzata PRESIDENT, fu utilizzata come nave privata dal presidente delle Filippine Ferdinand Marcos.
Nel 1987 fu venduta alla Philtrust finance Ltd. di Hong Kong e ribattezzata ASIAN PRINCESS.
nel 1993 fu acquistata dalla Philippine Passenger Lines di Manila, riprende il nome di PHILIPPINES.
Il 22.10.1999 fu trasformata in albergo galleggiante gestito dalla Manila Floating hotel & restaurant; l’iniziativa non riscuote il successo sperato e l’esperimento si conclude dopo pochi mesi.
Nel maggio 2011, ancora in disarmo presso Manila, e la classificazione presso l’American Bureau of Shipping venne sospesa.
