Costituiva una classe, di 6 unità:IMPAVIDO - INSIDIOSO - INDOMITO - IRREQUIETO - IMPETUOSO - INTREPIDO
Le navi di questa classe furono costruite dai Pattison di Napoli e Orlando di Livorno.
Furono i primi cacciatorpediniere italiani a montare turbine al posto delle motrici alternative allora in uso.
Le navi avevano buone qualità nautiche, veloci e dotate di buon armamento, e furono prese a modello progettuale per le successive classi Pilo, Sirtori, La Masa e Generali.
Tutte sopravvissero alla prima guerra mondiale. Nel 1929 vennero declassate a torpediniere.
Tutte furono radiate alla fine degli anni Trenta, ad eccezione della RN Insidioso che restò in attività sino alla sua perdita avvenuta durante la seconda guerra mondiale.
Il 4 dicembre 1915 mentre rientrava da una missione di pattugliamento antisommergibile, giunta a sud di Capo Linguetta urtò una mina che le fece saltare la prora. Per evitarne l'affondamento fu portata su un basso fondale.
Non ritenendo tuttavia conveniente il suo recupero venne asportato quanto possibile e l'unità fu abbandonata.
In seguito lo scafo scivolò in acque più profonde, fermandosi su un fondale di 35 metri dove ancora giace.
Il relitto della nave è stato individuato nell’aprile 2007, semidistrutto e sparso su fondali di circa 32 metri, nei pressi di Punta Linguetta

The ships of this class were built by Pattison Naples and Orlando in Livorno.
They were the first Italian destroyers to mount turbines instead of driving alternatives then in use.
The ships had good seaworthiness , speed and equipped with good weapons , and were taken as a model project for the following classes Pilo , Sirtori , Masa and Conditions.
All survived the First World War. In 1929 were downgraded to torpedo boats .
All were radiated at the end of the thirties, with the exception of RN Insidious which remained in business until his loss occurred during the Second World War.
On December 4, 1915 while returning from a mission of anti-submarine patrol , reached south of Cape tongue struck a mine that blew the bow . To prevent the sinking was brought on a shallow water .
Not being convenient , however, his recovery was removed as far as possible , and the unit was abandoned.
Following the hull slid into deeper water , stopping at a depth of 35 meters where it still lies .
The wreck was identified in April 2007 , partially destroyed and scattered at depths of about 32 meters , close to Punta Tab
