La R/V
Falkor in origine era una nave di protezione della pesca denominata
Seefalke ("Sea Falcon") costruita nel 1981 a Lubecca, in Germania.
È stata adattata a una nave da ricerca oceanografica presso il
cantiere navale Peters Schiffbau di Wewelsfleth, in Germania, dal 2009
all'inizio del 2012. La nave adattata è stata ribattezzata R/V
Falkor. La nave è diventata pienamente operativa nel 2013 e ha
condotto un anno intero di spedizioni scientifiche. Nel 2016, è
stao aggiunto il ROV SuBastian migliorando le sue capacità tecnologiche
e risorse scientifiche.

Falkor was originally a fishery protection vessel named Seefalke (“Sea
Falcon”) built in 1981 in Lübeck, Germany. She was retrofitted
into an oceanographic research vessel at Peters Schiffbau shipyard in
Wewelsfleth, Germany from 2009 to early 2012. The retrofitted vessel
was renamed R/V Falkor, after the Luckdragon in the fantasy novel The
Neverending Story. The ship became fully operational in 2013 and conducted
a full year of scientific expeditions. In 2016, ROV SuBastian was added
to Falkor, adding to her technological capabilities and scientific resources.
