Classe/Class Maestrale (FFGH)
Questa unità è stata progettata e costruita per svolgere un gran numero di missioni. Il suo ruolo principale è la difesa di forze navali e convogli da attacchi di sommergibili, quindi sia la piattaforma che i sistemi d'arma sono ottimizzati per la guerra antisommergibile. In più l'Unità può operare efficacemente in altre operazioni come il controllo e l'interdizione di vaste aree e linee di traffico mercantili, attacchi ad Unità di superficie e supporto ad operazioni anfibie, dispone di un sistema di combattimento integrato, frutto di accurati studi della Marina Militare e dello sviluppo tecnologico delle principali industrie nazionali. Equipaggiata con impianti di artiglieria a medio e corto raggio OTO MELARA, è in grado di impiegare il sistema missilistico anti nave OTOMAT ed antiaereo ASPIDE, un impianto lanciasiluri e di imbarcare sino a due elicotteri organici Augusta BELL SH212 o un elicottero SH101.
Dotata di un apparato motore a propulsione mista (motori Diesel e Turbine a GAS), l'Unità può sviluppare una velocità superiore ai 30 nodi, con un' autonomia di oltre 7.000 miglia.
Dal 2009 al termine del 2010 l'Unità è stata sottoposta ad un'opera di manutenzione ed ammodernamento del sistema di combattimento, svolta dall'Arsenale Militare di La Spezia e dall'industria nazionale, con l'obiettivo di incrementare il livello tecnologico delle strumentazioni di bordo e di potenziare le capacità di Comando e Controllo dell'Unità.

This unit was designed and built to perform a large number of missions. Its primary role is the defense of naval forces and convoys from submarine attacks, so both the platform and weapons systems are optimized for anti-submarine warfare. Furthermore, the Unit can operate effectively in other operations such as the control and interdiction of vast areas and merchant traffic lines, attacks on surface units and support for amphibious operations, it has an integrated combat system, the result of careful studies of the Navy and the technological development of the main national industries. Equipped with OTO MELARA medium and short range artillery systems, it is capable of employing the OTOMAT anti-ship and ASPIDE anti-aircraft missile system, a torpedo launcher system and can carry up to two Augusta BELL SH212 organic helicopters or one SH101 helicopter.
Equipped with a mixed propulsion engine (Diesel engines and GAS turbines), the unit can develop a speed of over 30 knots, with a range of over 7,000 miles.
From 2009 to the end of 2010 the Unit was subjected to maintenance and modernization of the combat system, carried out by the Military Arsenal of La Spezia and by the national industry, with the aim of increasing the technological level of the instruments on board and to enhance the Command and Control capabilities of the Unit.
This unit was taken out of service on 07.04.2025
