l' AIDA LAURO a causa
della nebbia fitta si incagliò all'1 del mattino a circa 160
metri dalla scogliera in Castle Point.Durante l'abbandono nave due
membri dell'equipaggio si ferirono. La nave St Ives si recò
a dare assistenza arrivando sul posto alle 2.30 circa. Alle 04.07
la nave si spezzò in due tra la sala macchine e caldaie. I
boccaporti furono trascinati via dal mare ed il carico ( semi di cotone,
arachidi e semi di lino )) fuoriuscito andò alla deriva.Ormai
saturo d'acqua fu dichiarato inutile e non recuperato.

Lauro stranded at 1am about 150 yds from the cliffs on Castle Point
in dense fog, two members of the crew being injured when she drove
ashore. The St. Ives lifeboat went to her assistance at 2.30 am. By
04.07 the ship had broken in two between the engine & boiler room.
All her hatches were gone and gear & cargo was drifting about.
By 09.07 her cargo of cotton seed, ground nuts and linseed was declared
worthless, being saturated by seawater
