Questa nave passeggeri/cargo fu costruita nel cantiere Ansaldo di Genova,– Varata 10.1942, completata 03.1948, faceva parte di una serie di 6 navi da carico progettate nel 1939: : UGOLINO VIVALDI - SEBASTIANO CABOTO - PAOLO TOSCANELLI - MARCO POLO e AMERIGO VESPUCCI . Le prime tre furono terminate dopo la guerra, le ultime tre subito dopo il varo furono affondate in banchina dai cantieri, e poi recuperate. Le 6 mavi furono completate come navi miste e poi gestite sia dal Lloyd Triestino che dalla Italia di Navigazione. La PAOLO TOSCANELLI fu trasformata general cargo per la Società Italia di Navigazione e impiegata sulla linea Centro America e Nord Pacifico. Dal 1949 le due navi UGOLINO VIVALDI - SEBASTIANO CABOTO passarono al Lloyd Triestino e impiegate sulla linea con l'Australia , nel 1952 tornarono per un breve periodo all'Italia SpA per la linea del Plata, e poi ritornarono al Lloyd Triestino e furono trasformate in general cargo . Le altre tre continuarono l'attività passeggeri sul centro America e sud Pacifico. Nel 1963 furono cedute al Lloyd Triestino e trasformate in cargo.

This passenger /cargo ship was built in the Ansaldo shipyard in Genoa, - Launched 10.1942, 03.1948 completed, was part of a series of six cargo ships designed in 1939:: UGOLINO VIVALDI - SEBASTIANO CABOTO - PAOLO TOSCANELLI - MARCO POLO and AMERIGO VESPUCCI. The first three were finished after the war, the last three immediately after the launch were sunk at the dock by the shipyard, and then recovered. 6 mavi were completed as combination carriers and then managed both by Lloyd that the Italian Navigation. The PAOLO TOSCANELLI was converted general cargo for the Italian Navigation Company and used on Central America Line and North Pacific.
