INFORMAZIONI
STORICHE
The ITALIA was ordered by Sunsarda SpA in 1963, the shipyard Felszegi Muggia, near Trieste and lauched on 28.04.1965 Both the client that the site was the property of the group Giacomelli. Italy was one of the first purpose-built cruise ships, both the design and the location of rescue lence on the lower decks, allowed to offer more open space on the upper deck. He began his career chartered by the Brothers Cosulich (Genoa) that used in cruise in the Mediterranean, after he was hired by Princess Cruises, which took in cruises between Mexico and Los Angeles advertised as Princess Italia despite the name had remained the same. In 1973 the expiry of the contract ITALIA was returned to poprietaria Cruises overseas. After a partial modernization, the vessel was chartered in February 1974 by Costa, that bought in 1977, this company made the ship cruises around the world, and in September 1983 it was sold to Ocean Cruise Lines that renaming OCEAN PRINCESS. In 1990, Ocean Cruise Lines was bought by Accor SA and Chargeurs SA, also owners of Paquet Cruises. During this operation the ship came into collision with a wreck sunk in the Amazon, the accident caused serious damage to the hull alpunto that the owners believed that it was not convenient and then repair the ship was declared lost. Following the insurers sold to a Greek company that renaming SEA PRINCE. Returned to service with Sunshine Cruise Line, in May 1995 but suffered a fire which was put up for sale again and was purchased by the Cypriot company Louis Cruise Lines and renamed Princesa Oceanica. Following a further major refit, was chartered to Thomson Cruises as Sapphire. The Ocean Princess career came to an abrupt end in March 1993, when he hit a sunken wreck in the Amazon. Ocean Princess was declared a constructive total loss and was sold by insurers to a Greek company that has renamed its Sea Prince. He was due to re-enter service with Sunshine Cruise Line, but has suffered a fire in May 1995 and was offered for sale again. She was bought by Cyprus-based Louis Cruise Lines and renamed briefly PRINCESA OCEAN. Following refurbishment and was chartered to Thomson Cruises with the name of SAPPHIRE.
