INFORMAZIONI STORICHE
Ex unità USA denominata Walker, classe Fletcher , fu acquistato dalla marina americana nel 1969-70. Questo cacciatorpediniere, costituiva una classe di 3 unità, assieme alle gemelle GENIERE e LANCIERE. Già dall'acquisto era una nave molto usurata che restò in servizio per pochi anni.
Esso fu ufficialmente consegnato alla Marina Italiana nella base navale americana di San Diego in California il 02.07.1969.
Il Fante (all'epoca Walker) partecipò alla seconda guerra mondiale ed alla guerra nel pacifico fino all'occupazione del Giappone. Al termine della guerra ritornò a San Diego e il 31.05.1946 fu messo in conservazione fino al 15.9.1950 data in cui fu rrimesso in servizio, subì un ammodernamento per quanto concerne l'armamento e la parte elettronica eda DD divenne DDE. Partecipò alle operazioni di Corea ( 1951-1952 ) ed a quelle del Vietnam (1967).

Former U.S. unit named Walker, Fletcher class, was purchased by the American navy in 1969-70. This destroyer, was a class of 3 units, along with twin GENIERE and LANCIERE. Even after a ship was very worn that remained in service for a few years.
It was officially delivered to the Italian Navy in the U.S. naval base in San Diego in California on 02.07.1969.
The Fante (at Walker) attended the second World War and the war in the ground until the occupation of Japan.
After the war he returned to San Diego and 31.05.1946 was put in storage until 15.9.1950 when he was rrimesso in service, underwent a modernization with regard to equipment and electronics eda DD became DDE.
Participated in the operations of Korea (1951-1952) and those of Vietnam (1967).
