INFORMAZIONI STORICHE
Nel 1932 la Marina Italiana ritenne che era necessario sostituite i cacciatorpediniere, declassati a torpediniere, in quanto erano quasi al limite dell'età prevista per la sostituzione di quel tipo di navi.
Nacque la classe SPICA, una serie di torpediniere la cui forma dello scafo consentì ad alcune unità di raggiungere una velocità massima alle prove di 37,5 nodi.La linea sobria e proporzionata di queste torpediniere conferiva loro un aspetto armonioso e snello; certamente uno dei migliori fra i numerosi tipi di torpediniere che fecero parte della Marina Italiana. L'apparato motore era perfettamente adeguato al loro dislocamento iniziale, ma negli anni successivi l'appesantimento delle unità, dovuto soprattutto alle continue variazioni nel settore dell'armamento, fece ridurre notevolmente la velocità.
La classe SPICA , era suddivisa in quattro serie:SPICA 2 unità, CLIMENE 6 unità, PERSEO 8 unità ed ALCIONE 16 unità, in totale 32 unità, delle quali sette rimasero in servizio dopo la fine del secondo conflitto mondiale che subirono sostanziali mutamenti nell'armamento nel periodo 1950/53.
La CASTORE, apparteneva alla serie CLIMENE.
Il 02.06.1943 fu bombardata a cannonate nei pressi di Capo Spartivento e affondo'.

SPICA The class was divided into four series: SPICA 2 units, CLIMENE 6 units , PERSEO 8 units ALCIONE 16 units, 32 units in total, seven of which remained in service after the end of World War II that suffered substantial changes in 'weapons in the period 1950/53.
