Questa unità è derivata dal tipo "Bigliani" ,è una unità addestrativa, lo scafo è stato allungato da 27 a 35 metri consentendone l'ampliamento delle predisposizioni logistiche, al fine di consentire l'alloggio a bordo di n. 18 allievi e due istruttori. Anche se realizzata per finalità didattiche , insieme alla unità gemella VACCARO sono equipaggiate esattamente come le unità operative, tanto da poter essere utilizzate anche nei compiti d'istituto se richiesto dalle circostanze.
