INFORMAZIONI STORICHE 
La nave scuola VESPUCCI, fu progettata dall'ingegnere (tenente colonnello del genio Navale) Francesco Rotundi. Fu costruita nei cantieri di Castellammare di Stabia nel 1930 ed il varo fu effettuato il 22 febbraio 1931.La nave ricevette la bandiera di combattimento il 15 ottobre 1931, nel porto di Genova.Il suo primo comandante fu Augusto Radicati di Marmorito. La VESPUCCI affiancò LA CRISTOFORO COLOMBO nell'attività di addestramento degli ufficiali della Regia Marina e poi Marina Militare Italiana fino al termine della seconda guerra mondiale, poi continuò da sola in quanto per l'effetto degli accordi internazionali, la Cristoforo Colombo fu ceduta all'URSS, quale risarcimento dei danni di guerra.
Questa unità, è stata dal 1946 al 1952 l'unica nave scuola a vela della marina militare italiana che nel 1952 acquistò un un brigantino goletta (EBE costruito nel 1921 ). Attualmente è la nave scuola a vela più anziana della Marina Militare ancora in servizio.
Il motto attuale della VESPUCCI è " Non chi comincia ma quel che persevera " ma questo non è il motto originale bensì il terzo, infatti esso risale al 1978, in precedenza ebbe i seguenti motti : " Per la Patria e per il Re " che fu sostituito nel 1946 con " Saldi nella furia dei venti e degli eventi "
Questa unità percorre ogni anno migliaia di miglia nautiche per l'addestramento dei cadetti dell'Accademia Navale di Livorno, ed ha già più volte circumnavigato il globo terrestre.
Oltre all'addestramento è stata più volte ambasciatrice nel mondo dell'arte, della cultura e dell'ingegneria italiana.
Questa unità ha subito nel corso degli anni costanti lavori di manutenzione e rinnovamento, pur rimanendo fedele alla tradizione marinara.
La sua superficie velica è di 2.800 mq, e le vele sono costituite in tela olona.

The training ship VESPUCCI , was designed from engineer (Lieutenant Colonel Engineer Naval) Francesco Rotundi. It was built in the yards of Castellammare di Stabia in 1930 and the launch was made on February 22 1931.La ship received the flag of battle on October 15 1931, the port of Genova.Il was its first commander Augusto Radicati of Marmorito. The VESPUCCI assist the CRISTOFORO COLOMBO in training the officers of the Royal Navy and Italian Navy until the end of World War II, then continued alone as the effect of international agreements, the CRISTOFORO COLOMBO was transferred all ' USSR, as compensation for war damage.
This unit was from 1946 to 1952 the only ship sailing school in the Italian navy in 1952 purchased a one brigantine schooner (EBE built in 1921). Currently the ship is sailing school in the older Navy still in service.
The current motto of VESPUCCI is "not who starts but who perseveres that" but this is not the original motto but the third, in fact it dates back to 1978, previously had the following motto: "For Fatherland and the King" which was replaced in 1946 with "Balance in the fury of the winds and events"
This unit does every year, thousands of miles for training of cadets of the Naval Accademy of Livorno, and has repeatedly circumnavigate the globe.
Besides the training has been repeatedly ambassador in the world of art, and engineering and culture Italian.
This unit has suffered over the years constant work of maintenance and renewal, while remaining faithful to seafaring tradition.
Her sail area is 2,800 square meters, and the sails are set up in canvas olona.
