Questa unità è
la quarta della classe Esploratore pensata e costruita principalmente
per operare nell'ambito della Multinational Force and Observers (MFO).
Varata nel 2001 e consegnata alla Marina Militare il 06 luglio 2005,
l'unità ha ricevuto la Bandiera di Combattimento nell'Arsenale
militare di La Spezia dai gruppi ANMI di Acireale e Pavia il 23 giugno
2006.
Nella primavera del 2007 è
stata dislocata in Mar Rosso, più precisamente a Sharm el Sheikh
(penisola del Sinai - Egitto), da dove ha svolto la sua attività
di pattugliamento nell'ambito della missione assegnata al Decimo Gruppo
Navale Costiero dalla MFO.
Dal 2012 la Nave è in
Italia nell'ambito di una regolare turnazione tra le Unità
gemelle impiegate nella missione M.F.O. per effettuare una sosta lavori.
Dal 01 Dicembre 2014 l'Unità ha come sede di assegnazione La
Maddalena e ha cambiato la sua dipendenza organica ed operativa passando
sotto il Comando in Capo della Squadra Navale (CINCNAV) tramite il
Comando Flottiglia Navi Ausiliarie (COMFLOTAUS) e il Comando del Primo
Gruppo Navi Ausiliarie (COMGRUPAUS UNO), ambedue con sede a La Spezia.
Nave Staffetta è la quarta
unità della Marina Italiana a portare questo nome.
La prima nave Staffetta fu una
goletta della Marina del Regno di Sardegna; la nave era usata prevalentemente
per navigazioni costiere. Dopo circa 30 anni di attività, fu
venduta nei primi mesi del 1861 e radiata nel novembre dello stesso
anno. La seconda Staffetta della Regia Marina Italiana fu anche la
prima nave Idrografica della Marina; impostata nel 1973 come nave
ad elica, fu armata per la prima volta nel dicembre del 1877 e affidata
al Capitano di Fregata Giovanni Galeazzo Frigerio. Dopo oltre 20 anni
di attività in tutti i mari del mondo, tra il 1900 e il 1903
fu trasformata in nave idrografica presso l'arsenale di Venezia da
cui uscì attrezzata per campagne idrografiche e scientifiche.
La terza Staffetta fu, invece, una corvetta della classe Flower acquistata
dalla marina canadese nel periodo post-bellico (1949), adibita anch'essa
a nave idrografica ed entrata in servizio nel 1953.
Il Crest della nave presenta
il classico jack della Marina Militare nella parte superiore, la sagoma
dell'Italia sullo sfondo e la nave in navigazione nella parte centrale;
nella parte inferiore, infine, è riportato il motto dell'Unità:
"Ubi Navis ibi Patria", che indica come ogni nave porti
sempre con se un po' di Italia ovunque vada.

This
unit is the fourth of the Scout class designed and built primarily
to operate within the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO).
Launched in 2001 and delivered to the Navy 6 July 2005, the unit received
the Combat Flag of the military in the Arsenal of La Spezia by ANMI
groups of Acireale and Pavia June 23, 2006.
In the spring of 2007 it was stationed in the Red Sea, more precisely
in Sharm el Sheikh (Sinai Peninsula - Egypt), where he carried out
his patrol activities as part of the mission assigned to the Tenth
Group Naval Coastal from MFO.
Since 2012 the ship is in Italy as part of a regular shifts between
the twin unit used in M.F.O. mission to make a work break.
From December 1, 2014 the Unit as the seat allocation La Maddalena
and has changed its organic and operational dependence passing under
the in Chief of the Naval Command (CINCNAV) via the Command Auxiliary
Flotilla Ships (COMFLOTAUS) and the First Command Group Auxiliary
vessels (COMGRUPAUS UNO), both based in La Spezia.
Relay ship is the fourth unit of the Italian Navy to bear this name.
The first ship was a schooner Relay Navy of the Kingdom of Sardinia;
the ship was used primarily for coastal cruising. After 30 years in
business, it was sold in early 1861 and decommissioned in November
of that year. The second Relay Royal Italian Navy was also the first
ship of the Navy Hydrographic; set in 1973 as a ship's propeller,
it was armed for the first time in December of 1877 and entrusted
to the Captain of Frigate Giovanni Galeazzo Frigerio. After over 20
years of activity in all the seas of the world, between 1900 and 1903
it was turned into a hydrographic vessel at the arsenal of Venice
from which came equipped for hydrographic and scientific campaigns.
The third Relay was, however, a corvette of the Flower class purchased
by the Canadian Navy in the post-war period (1949), which is also
used as a hydrographic vessel and entered service in 1953.
The Crest of the ship presents the classic jack of the Navy at the
top, the shape of Italy in the background and the ship sailing in
the middle; at the bottom, finally, shows the Unity motto: "Ubi
Navis ibi Patria", which indicates that each ship always bring
with them a bit 'of Italian wherever he goes.
