INFORMAZIONI STORICHE
Costruita nel 1952 dalla Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corporation come nave cargo classe C4 denominata Free State Mariner. Fu consegnata l'8 Dicembre 1952 alla US Maritime Commission.
Nel 1955 fu venduta alla Matson Navigation Company e convertita in nave passeggeri presso la Willamette Iron & Steel Company a Portland. Riconsegnata alla fine del 1956 fu rinominata Monterey e utilizzata come transatlantico di lusso sulla rotta San Francisco - Honolulu - Auckland - Sydney.
Nel 1971 fu venduta alla Pacific Far East Line e utilizzata come nave da crociera. Nel 1979 venne venduta prima alla President World Airways e successivamente alla American Maritime Holdings ma rimase in disarmo a Portland per un lungo periodo.
Nel 1987 venne acquistata dalla Aloha Pacific Cruises e trasformata in nave da crociera nei cantieri della Tacoma Boatbuilding Company e completata a Turku in Finlandia. La nave subì dei grossi cambiamenti esterni con l'aggiunta di una piattaforma a poppa e l'estensione della passeggiata a prua oltre all'aumento del numero di cabine per i passeggeri. La Monterey venne utilizzata per le crociere alle Hawaii con partenza da San Francisco a partire dal 1988.
Nel maggio 1989 fu bloccata per gravi carenza igienico sanitarie. Il fermo della nave decretò di fatto il fallimento della Aloha Pacific Cruises e la Monterey venne messa all'asta.
Nel 1990 fu riscattata dalla Starlauro Crociere. Fu portata a Napoli e sottoposta a lavori di ristrutturazione per l'abilitazione alla navigazione. Dal 1990 al 2006, svolse un lungo servizio crocieristico soprattutto nel Mediterraneo. Nel 1995 la Starlauro cambiò il nome in MSC Crociere e la Monterey fece parte della flotta assieme a Symphony e a Rhapsody. Nel 2006 la nave ebbe un guasto ad una caldaia e fu messa in disarmo a Genova. Poco dopo venne venduta agli indiani e rinominata Monte. Il 5 novembre 2006 giunse ad Alang per essere demolita.

HISTORICAL INFO
Built in 1952 by the Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corporation as a cargo ship C4 class called Free State Mariner. It was handed the December 8, 1952 to US Maritime Commission.
In 1955 it was sold to Matson Navigation Company and converted to passenger ship at the Willamette Iron & Steel Company in Portland. He returned at the end of 1956 it was renamed and used as Monterey San Francisco - Honolulu - Auckland - Sydney luxury liner on the route.
In 1971 it was sold to the Pacific Far East Line and used as a cruise ship. In 1979 it was sold prior to World Airways President and subsequently the American Maritime Holdings but was laid up in Portland for a long time.
In 1987 it was bought by Aloha Pacific Cruises and turned into cruise ship in the yards of the Tacoma Boatbuilding Company and completed in Turku in Finland. The ship underwent big external changes with the addition of a stern platform and the extension of the bow to walk over to the increase in the number of cabins for passengers. The Monterey was used for cruises to Hawaii from San Francisco since 1988.
In May 1989 it was blocked for serious health and medical shortages. Detention of the ship in fact decreed the failure of Aloha Pacific Cruises and Monterey was auctioned.
In 1990 it was bought back by Starlauro Cruises. It was taken to Naples and subjected to renovations for the qualification to navigation. From 1990 to 2006, he played a long cruise service especially in the Mediterranean. In 1995 Starlauro renamed MSC Monterey and was part of the fleet along with Symphony and Rhapsody. In 2006 the ship broke down to a boiler and was laid up in Genoa. Shortly after it was sold to the Indians and renamed Mount. On November 5, 2006 came to Alang to be demolished.
