                                                               INFORMAZIONI STORICHE
Questa unità fu costruita in U.S.A. per la marina americana,in origine era denominato TRIGGER, apparteneva alla classe TANG. La sua costruzione si basava in parte sugli standard dicostruzione tedeschi della fine della guerra. Per le sue caratteristiche di navigazione, maggiore velocità in immersione che in superficie poteva essere considerato più un sottomarino che un sommergibile. All'origine era dotato di motori diesel elettrici General Motors ad alta velocità, ma a causa dei problemi frequenti furono sostituiti con motori diesel a cilindri contrapposti di media velocità di derivazione aeronautica di dimensioni maggiori. Per poter installara questi motori, l'unità nel 1958 fu sottoposta a dei lavori per essere allungata di circa tre metri presso i cantieri Portsmouth Naval Shipyard di Kittery nel Maine. In seguito tra il 1968 e il 1969 fu
sottoposta a nuovi lavori di allungamento dello scafo alla base navale di Charleston nella Carolina del Sud al fine di consentire l'installazione di nuove apparecchiature elettroniche tra cui un nuovo sonar.Nel 1973 dopo un periodo trascorso in estremo oriente, l'unita fece ritorno a San Diego in California (5 aprile) , il 25 giugno venne imbarcato l'equipaggio italiano per prendere conoscenza con l'unità che il 2 luglio fu radiata dalla US Navy. Il 10 luglio fu consegnata alla Marina Militare destinata alla base di Taranto dove prestò servizio fino al disarmo, avvenuto il 28 febbraio 1986.

This unit was constructed in the U.S.A. for the U.S. Navy, was originally called TRIGGER, belonged to the class TANG. Its construction was based in part on standards dicostruzione the Germans after the war.
