INFORMAZIONI STORICHE
Nel programma di costruzione di quattro motocisterne per l’avvio di una flotta moderna, che coincise con l’inizio della seconda guerra mondiale, il regime di quel tempo decise di assegnare nomi di medaglie al valore e così furono varate nel 1939 le navi FRANCO MARTELLI e IRIDIO MANTOVANI , nel 1940 la nave GIULIO GIORDANI e nel 1942 la nave SERGIO LAGHI. Il 14.02.1943 fu requisita dalla Regia Marina.
Il 29.11.1943 fu catturata dai tedeschi a Venezia ed utilizzata come deposito d’acqua.
Derequisita il 13 agosto 1943, navigò per il gruppo fino al 1965.
Nel programma dei Tedeschi doveva essere affondata all’ imboccatura del Lido, durante il viaggio di trasferimento dalla Marittima al Lido, fu salvata in extremis e poi riconsegnata alla società dagli Alleati.
Fu demolita a La Spezia nel liglio 1970.
